The Team
Malcom Cowan
Heading up the Media Solutions team, with 17 years of experience and expert knowledge gained as an
editor on a vast range of projects from sport to light entertainment. He frequently sets up and project manages large,
complex events overseas and in the UK, managing teams, clients, facilities, budgets and introducing new services and workflows.
Malcolm works closely with clients to provide bespoke solutions to meet their commercial and creative needs. He also advises the
BBC on its Digital Media Initiative.

Charlie Cope
A fully operational editor for 13 years working across all areas and genres of production, from documentary making to
major events. He has 10 years experience in technical design and project management of bespoke post production facilities
for major clients and one off projects. He regularly manages operational teams in planning and executing projects within
time and budget constraints, providing a strong commercial awareness in an environment dedicated to excellence in programme
making.

Jeremy Power
Jeremy Power joined the BBC in 1987 and started editing in 1993 for BBC Broadcast, now Red Bee Media Ltd. He continues to
edit promotions for the BBC Television networks and for the UKTV channels. Jeremy started editing in linear tape suites but
quickly moved on to Lightworks VIP, Avid Media Composer and Quantel's QEdit. Jeremy now divides his time between being an
Editor and a post production consultant. As a consultant he supports users on Avid Media Composer, Avid Xpress Pro and Apple
Final Cut Pro. He also writes training material and delivers training to both colleagues and production staff. Jeremy
recognises that the launch of BBC Post Production Media Solutions creates a unique opportunity for sharing his and the
team's knowledge and experience with a wider audience. |

Andy Attwell
Andy joined the BBC in 1988 as a trainee recording operator and started his editing career in 1998. During that time he gained
a solid technical background alongside an excellent understanding of the budgetary constraints and time pressures involved with
programme making. Andy now works as an editor in the fast turnaround world of sport and post production consultant, where he
supports customers working across the main editing platforms on both local and central storage. Andy has an enthusiastic approach
that grows as the challenges increase and become more complex and diverse.

Steve Daly
Steve joined BBC Post Production in 1995 and is a highly experienced broadcast engineer. He has successfully project managed
large capital investment, operational and multi-vendor projects projects (>£1m), with responsibility for time-scale,
budget and delivery. This involved co-writing financial proposals and specification documents for tender processes, and managing
installation and building contractors. He is regularly involved in the strategic planning of future technical facilities and
workflows, delivering solutions to many programme-making departments including BBC Childrens, Sport, Factual, Entertainment,
Drama and Events. A recognised expert on many subjects such as HD, Dolby 5.1 Audio, broadcast control, automation and routing
systems and many server-based editing solutions. He has a deep knowledge of Avid, Apple, EVS and Quantel editing and server systems
and has wide ranging industry contacts, both high and low-level, with these and other major suppliers. |

Nick Keene
Nick joined the BBC in 1979 as a technical operator working in radio. In 1989 he moved into television, working in a number of
roles on Newsroom South East in Elstree, including picture editor, vision mixer, camera operator and sound mixer. In 1993 Top Of
The Pops moved to Elstree and Nick soon began to assist the editors, and started editing the show in late 1994. Top Of The Pops
moved back to TV Centre in 2001 and Nick moved across to the BBC Resources team. Nick is fully conversant with Avid Adrenaline
and it’s idiosyncrasies, is fully knowledgeable of the digital tape edit suites in BBC Resources and the Quantel editing
system based in the Broadcast Centre.

Steve Owen
Steve has worked for the BBC in engineering support since 1983 and most of his experience has been with post production
related equipment and facilities. He now supervises a small team of engineers responsible for support of linear and non linear
edit suites, as well as dubbing theatres based on Digidesign, AMS Neve and Soundtracs equipment. Steve's main area of expertise
is in non linear editing and shared storage, and he is the main technical contact for Avid within Post Production. He has
managed a variety of large projects including moving EastEnders post production from Avid Mediashare to Unity, upgrading to
protools based dubbing theatres and the recent BBC Sport upgrade to Avid Unity 5 and Interplay.

Jan Deas
Jan has over two decades of experience as a highly sought after craft editor, working on long form dramas and documentaries,
as well as more fast turnaround short form work like sport, Children in Need and Hangar 17. She also has over 10 years of
project management experience, developing workflows, processes and new facilities for long running programmes such as
EastEnders and Tikkabilla. For the last year she has been part of the entertainment team project managing large scale
collaborative editing and support services for Strictly Come Dancing, Any Dream Will Do and a host of other shows, which
have included P2 and Ingex pilots. Her need to fully understand any editing platform or system enables her to get to the
root cause of operational problems and evolve the most efficient process. She is currently leading the re-development of BBC
Post Production's non linear entertainment facility on the fourth floor of Television Centre, which includes adopting a new
ISIS storage system, and the design and installation of a bespoke assistants room and new non-linear edit suites. |

Judith Robson
Judith has 25 years of editing experience in popular drama and high end documentaries. Recent work
includes Imagine, The Culture Show, and Inside the Medieval Mind. Working predominantly on Apple Final Cut Pro and Avid Media
Composer systems, Judith has experience in a wide range of edit facilities both inside and outside the BBC. Recently Judith
worked as lead editor for BBC Factual and Learning, advising production and editors on routes through post, setting up projects
like the BBC documentary Trauma to fast turn around shows such as The Chelsea Flower Show. This gave her an excellent
opportunity to tap into what productions need and diverse ways of working. Judith always strives to fulfil programme makers'
visions and exceed their expectations and BBC Post Production Media Solutions gives her an opportunity to share her skills.

Bill Bulford
Bill started in television as a VT operator and engineer over 30 years ago and has had hands-on experience of digital
technology from its earliest beginnings. From liaising with manufacturers and installing and testing systems to training and
supporting users, he has always been closely involved with new technology and workflows. He has been instrumental in the delivery
and support of logging and browsing systems for the reality genre, web browse media file import and production, file delivery systems,
technical standards and modernisation of dubbing systems. With his wide experience, Bill is committed to create and apply practical
responses to issues in any area of media production. |
