BBC Post Production’s Telecine Team offers the full range of digital telecine, tape grading and non-linear grading suites, operated by the most experienced Colourists in the business. Our experience covers long-form programme grading, telecine transfers, film and tape restoration and High Definition deliveries.

TELECINE
Spirit Telecine
The Spirit telecine is a multi-format, multi-standard CCD based device. It works with 16mm, S16mm, 35mm & S35mm film to scan at 601 SDTV and HDTV. Providing primary colour correction and with the addition of Pixi colour correction hardware, offers powerful secondary colour correction.
Ursa Diamond
A multi-format device working with 16mm, S16mm, 35mm & S35mm film and scanning at SDTV. The addition of “Y-Front” hardware reduces film scratches. The Ursa is a cheaper option for telecine transfer than the Spirit but still yields quality results.
We also have additional telecine machines available for the transfer of Standard 8mm, Super 8mm and 9.5mm film and engineered to be "kind" to archive film.
GRADING
Pogle Platinum
Working at both SD and HD, the Pogle Platinum is a linear grading system for film and video and enables high quality matching between shots and scenes. It is capable of both primary and secondary colour correction through the addition of Pixi colour correction hardware.
AVID’s Symphony & Adrenaline
These non-linear edit systems from AVID provide sophisticated colour correction.
Color
A fully implemented colour correction tool for the Final Cut Pro editing system from Apple.
Nucoda
The non-linear grading system from Digital Vision. Offers sophisticated and creative grading options. See how the Nucoda was used in our Grading Criminal Justice case study.

RESTORATION
Ultrasonic Film Cleaning
Working with 16mm, S16mm, 35mm, S35mm film to clean prior to telecine transfer. This service is essential for negative transfers.
DVASC and DVNR
Reduces or eliminates the appearance of film grain, dirt, sparkle and noise.
Scream
An accessory for the Spirit to reduce the appearance of film grain. Essential for Super 16 use at HD.
Scratchbox
A hard-disk recording system which uses a pen & tablet to allow precise, rapid de-spotting at HD and SD.
PAL Transform Decoder
An essential tool for restoration, this decoder removes PAL artefacts such as cross-colour and aliasing.
Cedar De-Hiss & Cedar De-Clickle
Industry standard audio restoration hardware that will reduce or eliminate clicks, pops & hiss.
