Job DescriptionJob Title: Trainee Assistant Operator (Lighting) This job description is intended to reflect the nature, range and context of the work and to identify the main requirements of the job, but not necessarily to include an exhaustive list of duties. Organisational ContextBBC Resources is the largest production facilities provider in Europe. We help companies create media content and programming by providing outside broadcasts, studio and post production facilities. Each of our businesses operates at the top of its field. BBC Studios supports studio based programmes, providing staff, facilities, equipment and services. We run 18 studios across Television Centre and at Elstree, hosting BBC customers and key independent producers. Further ContextTo provide operational support to Studio Operations lighting team and engineering teams as required. Over the two year training period to achieve, through on the job experience and specific planned modular training, the basic skills and knowledge required to reach the level of Vision Operator. Key DutiesSetting up vision control equipment and assisting in its operation, preparation and maintenance. Setting up and lighting a line up chart; framing cameras on the chart and changing filters where required. Lining up colour and monochrome monitors, perform colour balance and operate joystick control panels on some smaller television shows. Installing VT machines, handle and label video tapes and perform tape line up. Assisting the lighting teams to rig, patch, test and fault find equipment. Performing simple operation of the lighting desk. Operating colour correctors for in-shot monitors, screens and minicoms. Preparing talkback equipment, assist studio floor staff with any problems arising. Plugging up simple feeds e.g. monitor feeds; plug up vision bays and equipment under supervision or following a detailed rig sheet. Assisting engineers with the rigging of equipment. Identifying hazards and risks in the work place. Knowledge and Experience requiredA demonstrable interest in visual technology. Involvement in a practical activity which demonstrates these interests
for example; community or amateur theatre or home video Demonstrable enthusiasm to learn and acquire new skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with artists customers and the public. Ability to Line up colour and monochrome monitors, perform colour balance and operate joystick control panels on some smaller television shows. Ability to operate colour correctors for in-shot monitors, screens and minicoms. Ability to work without close supervision. Ability to offer creative solutions within production constraints. Ability to work as part of a team, under direction as necessary. Able to remain calm in pressurised situations. Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure to constantly changing deadlines. Evidence of good interpersonal skills Ability to plan and organise work, assessing priorities to ensure deadlines are met. An approach to work which demonstrates self-motivation and reliability.
