Job DescriptionJob Title: Assistant Operator Studio Cameras, BBC Studios
Organisational ContextBBC Resources is the largest production facilities provider in Europe. We help companies create media content and programming by providing outside broadcasts, studio and post production facilities. Each of our businesses operates at the top of its field. BBC Studios supports studio based programmes, providing staff, facilities,
equipment and services. We run 18 studios across Television Centre and
at Elstree, hosting BBC customers and key independent producers Further ContextTo provide operational support to BBC Studios as required. Over the two year training period to achieve, through on the job experience
and specific planned modular training, the basic skills and knowledge
required to become a Camera Operator. Key Duties1. Rigging of camera and vision equipment and assisting in its operation, either as part of a larger crew led by a Supervisor or as part of an unsupervised operation. 2. Cable assist and grip as necessary, including crane swinging and tracking under supervision. 3. Rigging and operation of basic lighting for a simple camera operation in a broadcast environment. 4. To maintain an up to date knowledge of all the camera and vision equipment held in stores and studios. 5. Operating vision equipment for all types of studio productions. 6. Work as required on exterior sets and on location. 7. To rig approved supplier, dry hired equipment. 8. Simple boom operation and tracking. 9. Operating rod microphones. 10. Carry out simple vision mixing and vision operating. Knowledge Skills and Experience required:1. A demonstrable interest in audio or visual technology for example sound, music, photography. 2. Involvement in a practical activity which demonstrates these interests for example community or amateur theatre; web design; home video or audio recording or editing; assisting with hospital or local radio. 3. Ability to understand and work with complex systems and equipment. 4. Demonstrable enthusiasm to learn and acquire new skills. 5. Excellent communication skills and ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with artists customers and the public. 6. Ability to work without close supervision. 7. Ability to offer creative solutions within production constraints. 8. Ability to work as part of a team, under direction as necessary. 9. Able to remain calm in pressurised situations. 10. Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure to constantly changing deadlines. 11. Evidence of good interpersonal skills 12. Ability to plan and organise work, assessing priorities to ensure deadlines are met. 14. An approach to work which demonstrates self-motivation and reliability.
