Richard
Philipps , Director of BBC Studios
Television has been part of Richard’s life for more years
than he is willing to reveal and has provided him with challenging
and rewarding experiences throughout his career. He has worked in
most operational, engineering and managerial roles on 'this side
of the camera'. From his early days doing cameras on Test Matches
in Australia to location managing a HD film shoot in Japan and Taiwan
with two co-producers and a large equipment manufacturer, he says
he has never been bored.
For the last ten years, Richard has swapped the fun and immediacy
of programme making to concentrate on the challenges of supporting
programme makers through a range of line-management, operational
and commercial roles. Over this time he has been responsible for
areas as diverse as Costumes & Wigs and Special Effects, but
by far his greatest experience lies in BBC Studios. His association
with Studios goes back to his earliest managerial days and most
recently as Director of the management team responsible for transforming
one of the BBC's original core in-house facilities into an autonomous
fully commercial and profitable business unit within BBC Resources
Ltd. BBC Studios can now equal or beat the best in the industry
on both customer service and profitability.
Outside of television Richard spends his free time involved in various
family inclusive activities, from cooking to skiing and from IT
to plumbing!
