9 July 2008: The BBC has today announced the appointment of Mark Thomas as the new Chief Executive of BBC Resources Ltd.

In his new role, Mark will be responsible for BBC Studios and BBC Post Production, which both sit under the BBC Resources umbrella. Previously earmarked for sale, both business operations are being retained after the Corporation decided to sell off just one of BBC Resources' businesses earlier this year (BBC Outside Broadcasts was sold to Satellite Information Services Ltd in April 2008 - view story).

Mark takes the helm at BBC Resources on 4 August, reporting to John Smith, CEO BBC Worldwide.

Commenting on the appointment, John Smith said: "Mark joins at a crucial time for this business. The industry is changing very fast and BBC Resources will need to change too. Mark has shown both drive and strategic vision in previous leadership roles, and will be a terrific asset to the Resources team."

"It is a privilege to be asked to lead these talented teams, at this time. The huge part they play in the production process isn't always fully recognised and we need to change that. There are also some really big challenges ahead, but I'm confident that we can be on the front-foot, ready to meet them," added Mark Thomas.
