POST PRODUCTION INVESTS IN BRISTOL
BBC Post Production has invested in a new dubbing suite for Bristol
in response to the need to provide local post production for BBC
ONE drama series, Casualty, as well as service the audio requirements
of other customers including the Natural History Unit.
The new dubbing theatre, equipped with Dolby 5.1 surround sound,
will allow all of the post production for Casualty to be transferred
to Bristol for the first time. Until recently the series has been
post produced by BBC Post Production in London.
In addition an existing dubbing theatre has been completely re-furbished
to the same specifications as the new one, creating extra capacity
for wildlife documentaries and other ongoing series such as Antiques
Roadshow and Bargain Hunt.
The two main dubbing theatres are equipped with the latest AMS
Neve MMC consoles with foley facilities and a third, smaller, dubbing
theatre with a commentary booth. An additional track lay area has
been installed and all sound areas now have the Audiofile SC star
network, which will allow files to be shared between dubbing theatres
and track lay areas improving the efficiency of the dubbing process.
One of the main drivers behind the investment has been the need
to produce superior quality audio for programmes going on to DVD,
cinema release or HD format.
Phil Kelsh, Post Manager, BBC Post Production says "Bristol
is one of the premier dubbing areas for television production in
the country, driven largely by the demand for extremely high audio
post standards particularly amongst natural history and drama programmes.
We are delighted to be able to invest in the region."
