BBC Costume + Wigs are launching a new service, Designer Link, in August to assist customers in sourcing designers for their productions. As part of the service, BBC Costume + Wigs, which have compiled a comprehensive database of costume designers and make-up artists, will source a selection of suitable designers. They will provide TV production teams, film companies and ad agencies with support in finding the right designer with relevant experience in their chosen genre.

The service has been piloted with a number of production teams. Traditionally production teams source their own designers and make-up artists from the freelance marketplace and they will hire costumes and wigs from facilities like BBC Costume + Wigs. However, recently several production teams, with little experience in working with designers, have looked to BBC Costumes + Wigs for help in finding a designer that suits their production requirements (including knowledge of genres, budget and timescale). Designer Link will provide details of designers' work and is intended to save production teams time and money as well as bridge the gap between production and the leading designers in the industry.

Alan Godleman, Head of BBC Costume + Wigs comments: "Designer Link, which we created in response to requests for help from our customers, will provide a vital link between designers and production teams. This builds on the consultancy skills already offered by our costumiers and wig makers, who often advise both designers and production teams on which costumes and wigs are suitable for their show from our extensive range, which exceeds over a million pieces."

BBC Costume + Wigs will also be holding an open day on Wednesday 13 August between 9.00am and 2.30pm in the reception of the BBC White City building, located on Wood Lane, London, W12. Independent and BBC production teams are invited to come and talk about Designer Link and get advice on costumes and wigs for forthcoming productions.
